Malinalco archeological site, in Mexico, is a sanctuary complex built in a hill by the Aztecs from the mid 15th to the beginnings of the 16th century CE. The site contains 6 buildings, but the main one is the Cuauhcalli, which is significant in that it is carved out of the hill itself

The 1st century CE al-Diwan is a square chamber containing 3 stone benches that served as a triclinium for sacred feasts. Carved by the Nabataeans into a hillside to shield it from the wind, it's one of the few extant examples of nonfunerary architecture in Madain Saleh, Saudi Arabia
