Chateau de Sully-sur-Loire is a castle, constructed along several centuries, converted to a palatial seigneurial residence, in Loiret, France. It is a chateau-fort, a true castle surrounded with a defensive moat, built to control one of the few sites where the Loire can be forded.

In 1797 Heage Windmill was a 4-sailed tower mill built of local sandstone. In 1850 the common canvas sails were replaced with patent sails with shutters and a faintail was added to automatically turn the cap into the wind. Later it was to boast these six sails each weighing about a ton.

Koi Krylgan Kala, in Uzbekistan, was a temple-fortress built in the 4th-3rd century BCE by the ancient Khorezm people. The temple is surrounded by a defensive wall made of 2 rows of pakhsa and a mud brick. There is a moat around the fortress, which was filled with water in ancient times
