In 1994, archaeologists uncovered a life-sized marble statue of Roman Emperor Hadrian, clad in full armor. Remarkably well-preserved, the statue highlights the importance of Troy under Roman rule and recalls Hadrian’s visit to the city in 124 AD, when he sponsored major renovations.

A remarkably well-preserved Roman sarcophagus has been discovered in Budapest. The sarcophagus was found with its stone lid still fixed in place, secured by metal clamps and molten lead. When archaeologists lifted the lid, they found a complete skeleton surrounded by dozens of artifacts.

In one of the most important discoveries of 2025, archaeologists have uncovered in Belize, the tomb of the founder of the Caracol dynasty, Teʼ Kʼab Chaak. The most remarkable object from the tomb, was a jade-and-shell mosaic death mask that once covered the face of the Maya king. 349 CE

In 2017, during construction work at an IKEA parking garage near the Via Tiburtina, in Rome, archaeologists uncovered the remains of a Roman road, believed to have been used between the 2nd-4th centuries CE, and which still bore the marks of wagon wheels carved into its stone surface

Excavations in 2022 revealed a unique Andean tomb at the site of Pacopampa, in Peru. Within lay the body of a man aged 25-35 and a remarkable range of offerings, such as square beads and 20 Strombus shells, which had been covered with a red pigment, probably cinnabar. 1200-700 BCE

While trekking through the Aurlandsfjellet mountains of western Norway, a hiker recently found an enormous reindeer trap that dates back 1,500 years. Amongst the wooden logs, archaeologists uncovered other items as well, including several sets of well-preserved reindeer antlers
