The Bulverket is the remnants of a large wooden fortification at Lake Tingstäde in Sweden. When built in the 1130s, it consisted of a platform with houses surrounded by a double palisade. The bottom picture shows the Geologist Lennart von Post recovering part of the Bulverket in 1927

Chateau de Sully-sur-Loire is a castle, constructed along several centuries, converted to a palatial seigneurial residence, in Loiret, France. It is a chateau-fort, a true castle surrounded with a defensive moat, built to control one of the few sites where the Loire can be forded.

The Criel Mound in West Virginia, built in 250–150 BC. Inside the mound, there was 2 skeletons near the top, and 11 at the base, which consisted of a large skeleton at the center surrounded by 10 others arranged in a spoke-like pattern with their feet pointing toward the central skeleton

The Uunartoq disc is an 11th century CE wooden disk fragment found in Uunartoq, Greenland. Annotations denote elements for its possible usage as a sun compass. When the shadow is aligned with the shadow lines, North is up. Incisions in that direction permit measuring the shadow length

The top image is a reconstruction of the Medieval Louvre which was built by Philip II in 1190. Between 1528-1660, it was generally demolished to make way for expanding the Louvre Palace, while some parts of the castle's foundations were incorporated in construction of the later palace

A remarkably well-preserved Roman sarcophagus has been discovered in Budapest. The sarcophagus was found with its stone lid still fixed in place, secured by metal clamps and molten lead. When archaeologists lifted the lid, they found a complete skeleton surrounded by dozens of artifacts.
